1. 외롭지 않아요? / 저는 집에 잘 안 있어요

A : 부모님이랑 같이 사세요?
Do you live with your parents? 

B : 아니오. 저 혼자 살아요.
No.  I live alone.

A : 오, 혼자  사는 거 좋죠. 근데 좀 외롭지 않아요?
Oh, that's nice. But don't you get lonely?

B : 물론 외로울 때도 있죠. 근데 저는 꽤 바쁘게 지내서 집에 잘 안 있어요.
Sure, I get lonely somtimes. But I keep my self pretty busy so I'm not at home a lot.

2. 가습기 구매 이야기

제 사무실에 둘 가습기를 사러 어제 전자제품 매장에 갔어요.
저는 쇼핑할 때 결정을 꽤 빨리 하는 편인데, 
와, 종류가 너무 많은 거예요. 매장 전체를 10번도 훑었을걸요? 
그랬는데도 결정을 못했어요.  그래서 어떻게 했는 줄 아세요?
제일 비싼 걸로 샀어요.

I went to electronic store yesterday to get humidifier for my office.
I usually decide pretty quickly when I'm shopping.
but oh my gosh, there were so many different kinds.

but I still couldnt decide so you know what I did?

3. fast/quickly - rest/take a break - 30대 후반 1. 외롭지 않아요? / 저는 집에 잘 안 있어요

킴과 그녀의 남편은 처음 만났을 때 둘 다 30대 후반이었어요. 결혼을 꽤 빨리 했어요.
얼마 지나지 않아 첫 아이인 오스카를 낳았어요.
그녀는 오스카를 직접 키우기 위해 일을 쉬기로 했어요. 
오스카가 유치원에 갈 수 있는 나이가 되자마자 그녀는 복직했어요.

she decided to take a break from work to raise Oscar herself

4. 전치사 활용과 문장연결

어제 가전제품 매장에 가서 세탁기를 샀어요. 
엄청 조용해서 심지어 밤늦게 사용해도 이웃들이 못 들을 거래요.
난 야근을 자주 해서 10시 지나서 집에 오는 날이 많거든요.
그래서 정말 필요했어요. 다음 주 16일에 도착해요.

I went to an appliance shop yesterday and I bought a washing machine.
They say that it's relly quiet so even if I use it late at night,

제가 예전에는 감을 잘 안 먹었는데 최근에는 많이 즐겨 먹고 있어요.

6. 관계절 / 완료시제 외 다양한 표현방식

제가 새 랩탑이 하나 필요했는데 인터넷에 싸게 나온 게 있어서 하나를 주문했어요.
근데 그걸 배송하는 택배회사가 코로나 때문에 물류창고를 몇 군데 닫은 모양이더라고요.
이제 1주일 됐는데 좀 더 걸릴 것 같아요.

7. get to

get to는 여러 개의 뜻을 가지고 있다.

I think one of the most interesting things about teaching English is that I get to meet a lot of different people
영어를 가르치는 일을 하면서 가장 흥미로운 점 중 하나라고 생각하는 것은 다양한 사람들을 만날 수 있다는 것이다.
(그렇게 할 수 있어서 좋다 + 그것에 대해서 감사하게 생각한다)

When I was in Iceland a few years ago, I got to visit a lot of beautiful locations.
내가 몇 년 전에 아이슬란드에 갔을 때 아름다운 장소를 많이 가볼 수 있었다.
(좋은 기회들이 있었는데 좋았다)

As a freelancer, I get to set my own work schedule.
프리랜서로서, 나만의 근무 일정을 짤 수 있다.
(그런 편의를 누릴 수 있어서 좋다)

When I was little, both of my parents had to work.
So, I didn''t get to go home right after school. I had to stay at a daycare center for several hours.
But it wasn't all bad. I got to meet a lot of new friends.
어렸을 때 부모님이 둘 다 일을 했어요. 
그래서 저는 학교 끝나고 바로 집으로 가지 못했어요. 어린이집에 몇 시간 있었어야 했는데 그게 완전히 싫지만은 않았어요.
새 친구들을 많이 만날 수 있어서 좋았어요.
(부정형의 문장에서 could 도 되지만 대신 get to에서 못해서 아쉬웠다는 느낌)

When I was in high school, I spent one vacation with my grandfather 
and I got to see what it was like to be a farmer.
제가 고등학생이었을 때 방학 때 한번 할아버지랑 지냈는데요 
농부로 사는 게 어떤지 볼 수 있었던 좋은 기회였어요.
(~해서 좋은 기회였다)

When she was in college, seh had to work when she wasn't studying.
So, she didn't get to do a lot of the things that people generally want to do when they're in collage.
그녀가 대학생이었을 때, 공부를 하고 있지 않을 때는 일을 해야만 했어요.
그래서 대학교 때 사람들이 보통 하고 싶어 하는 것들을 많이 못했어요.
(그런 편의를 누릴 수 없어서 아쉬웠다)

she gave a really good presentation. We got to learn a lot about raising children.
We didn't get to ask any questions, though. There wasn't enough time.
그녀는 정말 좋은 발표를 했어요. 육아에 대해서 많은 것을 배울 수 있어서 좋았어요.
근데 질문은 전혀 못해서 아쉬웠어요. 시간이 부족했거든요.
(~를 좋은 기회였다는 느낌을 살림, ~못해서 아쉬웠다)

When I was studying in China, I got to try a lot of very unusual food.
제가 중국에서 공부하고 있었을 때 신기한 음식을 많이 먹어볼 수 있었어요.
(흔치 않은 기회를 얻었다)

• I couldn't : (단순히) 못했다.
• I didn't get to : 못해서 아쉬웠다
• 이해했으면 따로 생각해 보는 예문을 만들어봐서 적용해 보고 감을 익혀야 한다.

8. 욱했다 / 고의가 아니었다 / 의도는 아니었다 / 누구나 하는 실수다

한 번은, 제 강아지가 책상에 부딪혀서 제 컴퓨터가 바닥에 떨어진 적이 있어요. 물론, 일부러 그랬던 것은 아니에요. 누구나 할 수 있는 실수였죠. 그냥 놀다가 그랬어요. 근데 제가 꽤 심하게 소리를 질렀어요. 엄청 겁을 먹더니 한동안 화장실에 숨어 있었어요. 제가 그렇게 겁을 주려 던 건 아니었고 그냥 순간적으로 욱했던 건데 그게 아직까지도 좀 미안해요.

One time, my dog crashed into my desk and it knocked over my computer on the floor. Of course, she didn't do that on purpose. It was an honest mistake. She was just playing. But I yelled at her quite harshly. She got really scared and hid in the bathroom for a while. I didn't mean to scare her like that. I just lost my temper. But I still feel kind of bad about that.

9. 똑같다 / 크게 다르지 않다 / 달라진 것이 별로 없다

새 모델이 이전 모델이랑 크게 다르지 않아요. 디자인도 거의 똑같고 기능이랑 특징면에서도 크게 달라지지 않았고요 이전 모델이 처음 나왔을 때랑 가격도 똑같아요. 약간 더 가볍고 배터리 성능이 살짝 좋아졌는데 그것 말고는 둘이 거의 똑같아요.

The new model is not very different from the old one. It has pretty much the same design. And not a lot has changed in terms of the functions and the features. It even costs the same as when the old one first came out. It's a little lighter and the battery performance is slightly better. Other than that, the two are pretty much the same.
